What is holiness? In Hebrew, the root of the word qadoch means "the one who is separated", the one who is in a class on his own, and therefore possesses a character specifically his own. Holiness is therefore an awareness of experiencing something unique: an event. A holy town is a town that challenges us: discovering the event in ourselves, making sure that we experience the "extra-ordinary" which drastically changes our life, giving it meaning, illumination and joy. Marie Docher emphasizes these characteristics of everyday life, almost with humour, for example, a gallery of symbolic hats that reveal religious and cultural identity and membership. The profound beauty of the images offered by Marie Docher resides in her determination to make us feel the holiness of the town by showing us that what is out of the ordinary in holiness is not the stones but the men and women, and their differences. These pictures are luminous not only because of their quality but also because of the hope they bear, beyond these differences, of genuine holiness: the extra-ordinary meeting and dialogue with peace. Max file size(s): 1MB, 15MB, 30MB, 50MB (Uncompressed) JPEG.
